Federal redistricting litigation is unlikely to change the Republican majorities in the Texas House or the state’s congressional delegation. But constitutionally-questionable Republican overreach might give Texas Democrats powerful leverage the next time the political maps are drawn. Since then-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay– founder of Texans for a Republican Majority– led efforts to re-draw legislative and congressional districts in the GOP’s favor without regard for census data, Washington has been examining Texas election maps.
The latest round in the seemingly endless legal proceedings over those maps for legislative and congressional districts resumed in San Antonio on Monday.
