Tarleton State University’s Upward Bound Project and Educational Talent Search alumni will celebrate the 2017 National TRIO Day on Saturday, Feb. 25.
For millions of students from low-income families who strive to attend and graduate from college, seven federally funded programs called TRIO are making a world of difference. Tarleton has assisted almost 1,000 high school students from the Cross Timbers since initiating its Upward Bound Project in 1981. Currently, the program serves 95 students from nine area high schools. Ninety percent of Tarleton’s Upward Bound participants enroll in college, and 60 percent graduate with a postsecondary degree. Both statistics are higher than Texas’ state and national averages.
