A tragic accident that claimed the prominsing young life of a Tarleton State University student, who was reportedly on her way back home to Zephyr for the weekend.
18-year-old McKenzie Cox was a freshman and a track athlete at Tarleton, who had worked at New Life Assembly Church, according to her Facebook page.
Cox was traveling west on US Hwy. 67 late on Friday in a Ford passenger car when she lost control of the vehicle and was ejected, according to the DPS accident report. She was not wearing a seat belt.
Cox was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m.
The accident is under investigation by DPS Trooper Mitchell Best.
