Former Texas Governor and current U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry is reportedly under consideration to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to a Bloomberg News report. Perry has publicly endorsed strengthening the Texas border, an issue President Donald Trump campaigned on. But Perry’s consideration for the post marks a change in his relationship with President Trump. Two years ago, Perry campaigned against Trump’s brand of politics, calling Trump “a cancer on conservatism.” But when Trump secured the GOP nomination, Perry supported him. Beyond Perry’s surprise appointment to Trump’s cabinet as Secretary of the Department of Energy, Trump recently named Perry to his inner circle of national security advisers.
