Tarleton State’s Dr. Heather Hawk, an assistant professor of vocal performance at TSU, captivated a panel of judges and an Austrian audience to win first place at the prestigious American Institute of Musical Studies Meistersinger Vocal Competition in Graz, Austria.
Hawk was among 42 competitors from the preliminary round who advanced to the finals of the 36th annual competition. Her performance last Thursday was accompanied by the AIMS Festival Orchestra, held at the renowned Helmut List Halle, and culminated in Stephenville’s Soprano Professor winning first place, along with a monetary prize.
Dr. Hawk was one of eight finalists judged by a panel not affiliated with AIMS, including Ferenc Anger, artistic director of the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.
