A train derailment in Stephenville on Thursday afternoon resulted in 13 overturned freight cars and a grass fire, according to information released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
There were no injuries, no hazardous materials and no other vehicles involved in the accident.
A witness on the scene – who prefers to remain anonymous – believed it was a Distributed Power Unit train.
The Union Pacific Railroad defines a DPU train as a locomotive set capable of remote-control operation in conjunction with locomotive units at the train’s head end. DPUs are placed in the middle or at the rear of heavy trains, such as coal, grain, soda ash and manifest, to help climb steep grades.
The incident is still under investigation.
