After deliberating for less than fifteen minutes, a jury of eight women and four men sentenced 35-year-old Martin Carswell to 20 years in prison for Driving While Intoxicated in Dublin. Carswell pleaded guilty to felony DWI, and a punishment trial was held immediately in the 266th District Court.
After the verdict was rendered, Judge Jason Cashon imposed the sentence. Carswell had been convicted for misdemeanor D.W.I. on two previous occasions in 2001 and 2006. He also had been convicted of Burglary in 2012. Because of his previous convictions, Carswell faced the prospect of two to twenty years in prison for felony D.W.I.
