The Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents of an IRS scam making its way around Erath County. The Internal Revenue Service website acknowledges this scam, and states that the IRS will never call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes. There are always variations of the IRS phone scam. The Sheriff’s office said investigators are reviewing the cases to see if the victims have lost money.
