Cody Miller grew up in the area and spent about two decades working as a first responder. But on Monday, the volunteer firefighter and EMT became a convicted felon, pleading guilty to two counts of felony aggravated assault of a public servant in District Court. The episode occurred in September 2015 that took Miller from being a public servant in good standing to an inmate in the Erath County Jail.
More than a year ago, he texted a friend, saying he was going to kill himself. When officers arrived, he fired at them with a shotgun. The news sent a shockwaves through the community. He reportedly struggled with depression and post-traumatic stress. Miller had no criminal history.
