CTFAC Hosting Art Exhibit & Sale

The First Central Texas Art Exhibit and Sale hosted by the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council located at 204 River North Blvd. will be held April 1st through the 15th.  There will be a children's division, adult novice, advanced, professional in oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel.  There will also be glass, wood carving and metal works displays.  For more information call the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council at 965-6190.

 

Huckabay ISD Hosting Easter Egg

Huckabay Independent School district will be hosting an Easter egg hunt and kindergarten registration Thursday, April 8th from 12:30 to 1:30 at the Huckabay school building.  The egg hunt is for students who will be eligible for kindergarten in the 2004-2005 school year and  for children 5 years old by September 1, 2004.  The school asks that you please bring 12 eggs and a basket or a sack for the hunt.

 

8th Annual Tractor Show

Coming April 17th

The Erath County Antique Tractor Club and the Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 8th annual tractor show on April 17th in the city park.  Last year over 100 exhibitors attended this show which is open to the public at no admission.

 

Optimist Club 32nd Annual

Auction Benefits Local Projects

The Stephenville Optimist Club will be hosting it's 32nd annual auction on Friday, April 30th at Wisdom Gymnasium on the campus of TSU.  Over the past 31 years this event has raised over $700,000 which has been used to support many worthwhile youth projects in our community.  Beginning on Wednesday, March 24th, Optimist members will be soliciting donations of merchandise to be sold at the auction.  If you have any questions or would like to donate to this great cause, call July Danley at 965-2406.

 

72nd Texas State Gospel

Singing Convention Coming In April

For nearly 70 years this prestigious gospel convention has been held in Stephenville with the complete support of the chamber of commerce and area businesses.  The gospel singers are from all areas of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, New Mexico and California.  There will be seven gospel music publishers with representatives of each publishers promoting their gospel music book.  The gospel singing convention that will be held April 16th through 18th at the SHS and is free to the public.

 

Account Set Up For Local Teacher

Strokes strike about 700,000 Americans each year with the vast majority surviving.  On March 9th, Lorena Thomas, a seemingly healthy woman with no known health problems, a popular Stephenville teacher and mother of three woke up and complained to her husband, Michael Thomas, that she did not feel good.  After being taken  by ambulance to the ER, doctors at Harris Methodist in Fort Worth said she suffered a massive stroke as a result of a blood clot that has affected her brain stem.  Although the prognosis for Mrs. Thomas is still uncertain, her doctor has given the family hope for a slow recovery.  The faculty at SHS has raised over $2,000 and an account for Lorena Thomas has been set up at Bank of America in downtown Stephenville. 

 

AARP Offering Tax Assistance

AARP is offering free tax assistance to senior citizens and low income families form 9 am to 11:30 am at the Stephenville Senior citizens Center in downtown Stephenville.  Just bring your W-2s and 1099s, last years income tax returns and the social security numbers of all your independents.  No appointment is necessary.

 

United Coop Sponsoring Local Youths

United Cooperative Services is sponsoring four local youths to attend the government in action youth tour to Washington, D.C. June 10th through the 18th.  To get your application online visit www.united-cs.com.

 

TSU Raffling Storage Building

The TSU collegiate FFA is conducting a raffle for a storage building.  These buildings are built by Tarleton students with materials donated by local businesses.  The building is 8x7 with a three foot door and is 10 feet high at the peak of the roof.  Normal selling price for these buildings is $200.00.  Raffle tickets are one for $3.00 for 5 for $12.00.  Tickets can be purchased from any TSU collegiate FFA member until April 20th and the drawing for the building will be held that night.  For more information call the chapter president, Sherman Hammons at 592-9461

 

Meals On Wheels Needs Help For 2004

Are you thinking about your resolution for 2004?  If you would like one that will be rewarding for you and others, consider donating your time to Erath County Senior Citizens Incorporated Meals on Wheels program.  They are in desperate need of volunteers to deliver lunchtime meals to Stephenville senior citizens.  Make a difference in the lives of our area senior citizens.  If you can help, please call Susan or Deanna at 965-3510.

 

CPS Needs Foster Homes

Child Protective Services is in dire need of foster homes in Erath county.  Foster families provide temporary care for abused and neglected children.  Open your heart and your home to a child in need by calling 1-800-228-8226.  Foster parent training classes will begin soon.
