If you’re thinking of attending any of the scheduled events in City Park this Fourth of July weekend you might want to reconsider where you’ll park.
City crews have been hard at work to get the heavily damaged parking lot paved in time for Independence Day festivities. But after rethinking the impact of heavy traffic on newly laid asphalt, the city has decided to wait until the holiday is over.
Heavy rain on Tuesday just confirmed that the lot will not be ready in time.
Director of community services Jeremy Alen said they’ll hold off laying the asphalt for the main parking lot. He said, due to the amount of time needed for curing, they thought it better to do it correctly and have proper drying time so vehicles don’t tear up the newly laid asphalt.
