A longtime Baylor University regent has confirmed to the Waco Tribune-Herald that embattled football coach Art Briles has reached a financial settlement with the university. He is quoted as saying, “The Briles era is over”.
The legendary four-time state champion coach at Stephenville High went 65-37 in eight seasons at Baylor before being removed in the wake of a report on the football program’s handling of sexual assaults by the law firm Pepper Hamilton.
Although Briles’ contract remains private, various news outlets have reported that it averaged as much as $6 million per year and ran through 2023.
Briles will be represented by Ernest Cannon of Stephenville for the planned mediation on Friday.
